Lab Grown Diamonds
All you need to know.
What Are Lab Grown Diamonds?
Lab grown diamonds are physically, chemically, and optically identical as mined diamonds.

Physically Identical
They have the same crystal structure, hardness (10 on the Mohs scale), and density as mined diamonds. If you touch or wear them, you wouldn’t notice any difference.

Chemically Identical
Both are made of carbon atoms arranged in the exact same way. There's no difference in composition.

Optically Identical
The same brilliance, fire, and clarity as mined diamonds, indistinguishable to the naked eye — even under magnification.
In short, a lab grown diamond is a real diamond. The only difference is how it’s made — one forms over billions of years underground, the other is grown in a lab over a few weeks using advanced technology.
At tinxx, choosing a lab grown diamond means embracing innovation without compromising on beauty or brilliance.
How Are Lab Grown Diamonds Created?
Lab grown diamonds are produced through advanced technology that replicates the mined diamond formation process. There are two primary methods:
At tinxx, we use a combination of both. Both methods result in diamonds that are visually and structurally identical to mined diamonds, ensuring exceptional quality and brilliance.
Why does tinxx choose Lab Grown Diamonds?

A More Ethical and Conscious Choice
Every lab grown diamond is free from the ethical concerns that can come with traditional mining. Mined diamonds have historically been tied to environmental harm, unfair labor practices, and conflict. Choosing lab grown means you don’t have to worry about these risks. It's a thoughtful decision that reflects responsibility and peace of mind for you.

Every Bit a Real Diamond
Lab grown diamonds are physically, chemically, and optically identical to mined diamonds. They have the same brilliance, structure, and timelessness, recognized as real diamonds by the same global gemological standards.

A New Category of Diamond, A New Opportunity
Lab grown diamonds offer something truly exciting: they enable you to experience the beauty and meaning of diamonds in a way that feels modern, conscious, and accessible. Feel empowered to own something extraordinary, without waiting for a special occasion or someone else’s gift.
At tinxx, we believe luxury should be defined by craftsmanship, meaning, and ethical origins, not by outdated industry standards. Our lab grown diamonds embody this philosophy, offering brilliance without compromise.
Common Lab Grown Diamond Questions
Are lab grown diamonds “real”?
Yes. Lab grown diamonds are real diamonds. They share the same chemical composition and crystal structure as mined diamonds, which gives them the identical hardness, brilliance, and sparkle. The difference is in how they formed. Rather than growing over billions of years deep within the Earth, lab grown diamonds are cultivated in controlled laboratory environments.
Are lab grown diamonds “fake”?
No. Lab grown diamonds are 100% real diamonds. They are not imitations or substitutes. They are genuine diamonds grown above ground rather than mined from the Earth.
Lab grown diamonds have the same chemical composition, crystal structure, and brilliance as mined diamonds. They are graded and certified by the same respected gemological institutes (IGI) that certify mined diamonds.
The misconception that lab grown diamonds are “fake” often comes from confusion with diamond simulants like cubic zirconia (CZ) and moissanite. While simulants may look like diamonds, they have completely different chemical compositions and properties.
Lab grown diamonds are not substitutes or lookalikes, they are diamonds in every sense, just created in a controlled environment instead of deep underground.
Are lab grown diamonds “synthetic” diamonds?
Yes, but not in the way many people think.
In gemology, the term synthetic diamond refers to a mined diamond that has been grown in a lab rather than mined. It has the same atomic structure, physical properties, and durability as a mined diamond. However, outside of the scientific community, “synthetic” is often misunderstood to mean “fake” or “imitation.” This is incorrect. Unlike cubic zirconia or moissanite (which are diamond simulants), a lab grown diamond is a real diamond in every sense.
What is the difference between mined diamonds and lab grown diamonds?
The primary difference between mined diamonds and lab grown diamonds lies in their creation process. Mined diamonds form over billions of years beneath the Earth’s surface under extreme pressure and heat. Lab grown diamonds are produced in just weeks or months using advanced technology in controlled environments that mimic these conditions. Despite their different origins, both types exhibit identical physical, chemical, and optical properties, making them virtually indistinguishable, even to experts, without specialized equipment.
How can I tell whether a diamond is mined or lab-grown?
Mined and lab grown diamonds are chemically, physically, and optically identical, meaning you can’t tell the difference with the naked eye. Only specialized, expensive equipment in a gemological lab can determine the origin of a diamond.
Do lab grown diamonds last as long as mined diamonds?
Yes. Lab grown diamonds are just as durable as mined diamonds, with a Mohs hardness of 10, the highest level of hardness found in nature. This means they are highly scratch-resistant, retain their brilliance, and will last a lifetime.
Are lab grown diamonds a good investment?
Lab grown diamonds are an investment in beauty, ethical sourcing, and personal meaning, not financial resale value.
We do not advise viewing diamonds—mined or lab grown—as assets expected to appreciate or retain monetary value. Jewelry rarely increases in resale worth unless distinguished by exceptional rarity or provenance. The true value of any diamond lies in its emotional significance, timeless appeal, and its role in marking life’s most meaningful moments.
Are tinxx lab grown diamonds certified?
For each stone weighing 1ct and above, a certificate from IGI will be provided, with a minimum of F+ color, VS1+ clarity, and excellent cut on the certificate. Our selection process includes s careful examination of numerous stone certificates against our own strict standards, even beyond the 4Cs.
